The 10 km Skating race offers a dynamic introduction to the free technique of cross-country skiing. Compact in distance yet sporty in character, the focus is on speed, technique and a smooth, flowing rhythm. The race takes place as part of the König Ludwig Lauf winter weekend, combining a sporting challenge with the authentic atmosphere of competitive cross-country skiing.

Technique and Race Experience

Dynamic skating technique, powerful pushes and a smooth rhythm define this race. The compact distance combines speed, technique and endurance to create an intense racing experience for both newcomers and experienced skaters.

Registration

Registration for the 10 km Skating race is now open. Online registration is available until 3 February 2027 inclusive. Late entries can be made on 5 and 6 February 2027 at the Expo in the Ammergauer Haus, subject to remaining race bib availability.

Start

The 10 km Skating race starts at the start area in Ettal at 09:00 a.m.

Only participants wearing an official race bib are permitted to enter the start area.

Any clothing or personal items left behind in the start area will be collected.

Finish

The finish area is located at the Oberammergau Sports Centre.

Refreshments

  • At the finish: hot food, snacks and drinks.

Clothing Bag, Transport & Showers

Clothing bags will be transported free of charge from the start area to the finish after the race start and can be collected there.

Clothing bags can be purchased on site or in the online shop. Bags must be handed in at the designated bag-drop area in the start zone.

Showers are available free of charge in the finish area.

Awards & Award Ceremony

Awards will be presented to the top three female and male finishers in the overall ranking. Age-group winners will receive their prizes separately.

Every participant will receive a finisher medal.

The award ceremony will take place at approximately 11:30 a.m. at the Oberammergau Sports Centre in the finish area.

PARKING & SHUTTLESERVICE

A free shuttle bus service from Oberammergau to Ettal will be provided. Buses will operate from 6:30 a.m. onwards. The final shuttle departs Oberammergau at 10:30 a.m.

By Car

From Munich:
Take the A95 motorway to its end and continue towards Oberau. In Oberau, turn right towards Augsburg. After crossing the Ettaler Berg mountain pass, you will reach Ettal – the southern gateway to the Ammergau Alps Nature Park.

From the A7:
Travel via Seeg, Roßhaupten and Lechbruck to Steingaden. From there, continue towards Garmisch-Partenkirchen on the B23 to Bad Bayersoien, located in the northern part of the Ammergau Alps Nature Park.

From Füssen:
Travel via Steingaden and continue towards Garmisch-Partenkirchen on the B23 to Bad Bayersoien in the northern part of the nature park.

From Innsbruck:
Travel towards Garmisch-Partenkirchen and then follow signs for the A95 / Munich. In Oberau, turn left towards Augsburg. After crossing the Ettaler Berg mountain pass, you will reach Ettal – the southern gateway to the Ammergau Alps Nature Park.

By Bus & Train

The Ammergau Alps are easily accessible by train from Munich. In Murnau, change to the regional Ammertalbahn railway. The scenic journey offers impressive views of the Alps and serves Bad Kohlgrub, Saulgrub, Altenau, Unterammergau and Oberammergau.

From Innsbruck, take the train via Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Oberau. From there, continue by regional bus towards Füssen.

Guests staying with participating accommodation providers receive an electronic guest card, allowing free travel on regional buses throughout the Ammergau Alps. This makes it easy to explore the region without the need to search for parking.

Airports

  • Munich Airport (Franz Josef Strauss / MUC): approx. 130 km, best overall transport connections
  • Memmingen Airport (Allgäu Airport Memmingen / FMM): approx. 80 km
  • Innsbruck Airport (INN): approx. 100 km

A 20% discount applies to combination entries, for example when registering for the 21 km race on Saturday and the 42 km race on Sunday.
